Hydration Support
Dehydration is one of the most common and preventable health risks for elderly people. Our carers make sure your parent is drinking enough, every single day.
Why hydration matters so much for elderly people
Dehydration in older adults can cause confusion, urinary tract infections, falls, low blood pressure and hospital admissions. Many elderly people simply forget to drink, lose their sense of thirst, or find it physically difficult to make drinks for themselves.
Our carers actively monitor your parent's fluid intake throughout every visit - not as a tick-box exercise, but as a genuine priority that protects their health.
What our hydration support includes
Our carers prepare hot and cold drinks tailored to your parent's preferences, encourage regular fluid intake throughout the visit, monitor and record fluid intake on our Nourish care system, recognise early signs of dehydration such as dry mouth, dark urine, confusion or dizziness, flag concerns immediately to supervisors, family members and GPs, and work alongside medication management to ensure adequate hydration around tablet times.
We also consider dietary factors - soups, fruit and other water-rich foods all contribute to hydration and are included in our meal preparation where appropriate.
Linked to better health outcomes
Proper hydration reduces the risk of UTIs, constipation, kidney problems and cognitive decline. For clients with dementia, staying hydrated can reduce confusion and agitation. For those on multiple medications, adequate fluid intake helps the body process drugs safely.
Our digital care records mean you can see exactly how much your parent is drinking - giving you peace of mind even from a distance.
